This is the highest honor bestowed upon a Member of Lake Chapter of A.B.A.T.E of Minnesota. This award will be presented to a Lake Chapter Member who demonstrates a sustaining commitment to insuring and promoting motorcycle rights and safety. This award was created to keep alive the spirit of Steven J. Kreitlow, beloved former Lake Chapter President, to recognize his joyful and exuberant dedication to motorcycle rights through awareness, training, education, membership, and the promotion of good will in the community.

The award will be an American Flag that has flown over the United States Capitol Building on August 6^th of the current year, which is the anniversary of Steve’s death.

Any active Lake Chapter member who is not currently a Chapter Officer can be nominated for their continuous efforts to ensure the rights and safety of motorcyclists. The Member’s past, present, and unrelenting efforts may be considered at both a Chapter and State level, as well as and including their contributions to any organization or effort that promotes motorcyclists’ rights and safety.

This honor will be awarded once per year in December, and is not a replacement for the Member of the Year award, which is intended to honor a Member’s contributions to the Chapter in the previous year.

Nominations will start in August and will end at the October Chapter meeting. Any current Lake Chapter Member may submit ONE nomination. Nominations should be 200 words or less, typed or legibly hand written, and should clearly state why you believe the Member is deserving of this honor. The nomination should be emailed or hand delivered to the current Chapter President. The Member submitting the nomination will remain anonymous.

The current Chapter President will select a minimum of three Chapter Members for the Selection Committee. This Committee will consist of the current Chapter President and should include one or more past recipients of the award. The Committee will review the nominations and select three or more (at their discretion) for the Chapter to vote on. Voting will take place at the November Chapter meeting. The ballots will be counted by the previous year’s winner or his or her delegate and one other Chapter Member.

The award will be presented to the winner at the December Chapter meeting by the previous year’s winner. Becky Hasslen, Steve’s life partner, Jim and Rosa Kreitlow, Steve’s brother and sister-in-law, and any previous year's winners may also be involved in the presentation of this award if they so choose.
